New doc to explore Gaye classic
Marvin Gaye’s 1971 classic What's Going On has gained added resonance for many in light of recent events. The making of the album will be chronicled in a forthcoming documentary film titled Marvin, What's Going On? The documentary will be made with the cooperation of Gaye's former wife and three children, and will feature never-before-seen archival footage. (Variety)

Hiss Golden Messenger are sharing a bill with Bon Iver next month at the Hollywood Bowl, and a member of Bon Iver — drummer Matt McCaughan — will appear on the next Hiss Golden Messenger album. Perry on the mend
Joe Perry is doing "better than we all first feared" after leaving a Hollywood Vampires show and being hospitalized, says Aerosmith bandmate Tom Hamilton. Alice Cooper said Hollywood Vampires' Tuesday night show would go on as planned, and the Starkey Foundation said that the band's scheduled appearance at Sunday's gala benefit in St. Paul would also happen as scheduled. Erykah Badu donates concert proceeds to rape kit testing
Erykah Badu will donate proceeds from a concert in Detroit to a campaign aiming to test thousands of abandoned rape kits found in 2009 in Detroit Police Department storage. The project is named the 490 Challenge, since it costs $490 to test each kit. (Rolling Stone)
Bad Boy box set announced
Bad Boy Entertainment has announced the release of a 20th anniversary box set. The 80-track set, out Aug. 12, will feature songs by the Notorious B.I.G., Nelly, Puff Daddy, Janelle Monaé, and many more.
