Desdamona, PaviElle, and members of Doomtree are among many local musicians who will perform on Sunday on the lawn of the Minnesota State Capitol, at a free community gathering convened in cooperation with the City of Saint Paul. Community leaders will also speak at the event, which is meant to provide a positive environment for people to gather in the wake of recent events that have shaken people in Minnesota and beyond.
Isaac Peterson, who is producing the event under the auspices of his company 10K-Kollective, emphasizes that the event doesn't have a political aim — it's about healing. "I'm hoping to create a place," he says, "where, as a community, people can congregate in a constructive manner. Listen to music, have a good time, just be together and enjoy each other."
The gathering will begin at 1 p.m. this Sunday, July 10, on the lawn of the Minnesota State Capitol; it will run until 5 or 6 p.m. Confirmed performers include P.O.S, Mike Mictlan, Cecil Otter, Paper Tiger, and Lazerbeak of Doomtree; along with Desdamona, PaviElle, BiG WiZ, J. Plaza, Sieed Brown, Pierre Glass, Mac Irv, and Deeply Rooted Tribe. Additional musicians may be added to the lineup.
Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring picnic lunches (and blankets or chairs). Food vendors including Sizzling Wagon, Sasquatch Sandwiches, West Indie Soul Food, Bacon Me Crazy, and Hometown Creamery will be located on Cedar Street. Peterson, who's personally funding the event, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help defray security expenses and welcomes all donations.
