Music News: New technology lets bands deactivate phones shooting videos at concerts

Imagine this: you're at a concert by your favorite band, and suddenly they start to play a deep cut you've never heard live before. You raise your phone to take a video and — nope! Your phone screen simply says, RECORDING DISABLED. That could happen if Apple implements technology they've patented. The invention would, if implemented, allow bands to use infrared transmitters that would interact with iPhones to disable recording during performances. (Metal Sucks)

China bans Gaga

China's ruling Communist Party has issued an order banning the distribution of music by Lady Gaga. The star's offense? Meeting with the Dalai Lama, who is in exile over his protest of Chinese control of Tibet. The meeting, on Sunday, was live-streamed on Facebook. (Stereogum)

Dev Hynes talks Prince

Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) has talked about the influence of Prince on his music. "I’m inspired from the school of Miles and Prince and these people that just kept it locked in and kept going," Hynes tells Pitchfork. "They had their famous battles of course, but they tried to keep it all love and did the best for them and the people they loved. And that is what I choose to do. Prince was the main person who showed me to be myself at the fullest, and he still teaches me that to this day. I’m still learning things from Prince."
