A new Prince mural at the Chanhassen Cinema will be officially unveiled tomorrow night, June 22, at 7 p.m.
The Mayor of Chanhassen will join artist Mr G Hoete to unveil the mural, which will be dedicated to the late music icon's family. Michael Holtz, who often DJed at Paisley Park, will be providing music starting at 6 p.m., and at 7 a drone will be sent up to take a photo of the assembled crowd. Food will also be on hand, and after the dedication, the theater will play Purple Rain.
The artist told WCCO that Minnesotans reached out to him and asked him to come paint a mural here after they saw photos of a Prince mural he painted in Sydney, Australia, where Hoete lives. This is the second recent local mural devoted to Prince’s memory: previously, Bloomington artist Rock “Cyfi” Martinez created a Prince mural on the wall of a building in Uptown Minneapolis.
This morning, as Hoete took a break, a steady stream of fans were driving up to see the work in progress and take photos of the mural. One woman, as she climbed the short grass hill to the mural, left her car doors open with the stereo playing Prince's "Sometimes It Snows in April."
