Believe it or not, there's never actually been an official soundtrack release for the 1986 John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Now, to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary, an official soundtrack will finally be released later this year (specific date TBA). The surprising reason there never was a soundtrack release: Hughes didn't think anybody would want one. "I mean," he said in an interview, "would kids want 'Danke Schöen' and 'Oh Yeah' on the same record?" We're about to find out. (Billboard)

"Stairway" trial update
Tuesday's testimony in the "Stairway to Heaven" trial turned on whether Robert Plant could have heard and remembered Spirit playing "Taurus" at the Birmingham club Mother's. Spirit bassist Mark Andes says he met Plant at one of the band's shows, but Plant says he has no memory of seeing the band play; Plant also testified that he can't read or write music, which suggested that it would have been difficult for him to convey the "Taurus" music to bandmate Jimmy Page even if he did hear it. Ticketmaster releases list of voucher-eligible shows
Many Ticketmaster customers have received vouchers for free tickets, as part of a class-action lawsuit over the ticketing company's fees. A list of shows for which those vouchers can be redeemed has now been released, and they include shows by megastars including Bob Dylan, Weezer, the Cure, and "Weird Al" Yankovic. None of the eligible shows, however, are taking place in Minnesota. Ticketmaster says the list will later be updated. (City Pages)
