Rock icon Kathleen Hanna covers Bruce Springsteen’s "Dancing in the Dark" on the soundtrack to the new movie Maggie's Plan — with an assist from actor Tommy Buck. Hanna makes a cameo in the film, which comes out Friday. (Pitchfork)

PRINCE Bill gets a rewrite
The PRINCE Bill — currently being fast-tracked through the Minnesota Legislature in hopes of protecting the name and likeness of Prince and other deceased Minnesota celebrities — has been significantly revised by a state Senate committee, after the original version was criticized by some for moving "too far too fast." The Senate bill will now have to be reconciled with the House version. (MPR News)
Remembering two music greats
Country singer-songwriter Guy Clark has died at age 74. "People like Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker were all big fans," said The Current's Bill DeVille. "Jerry Jeff turned Clark’s song 'LA Freeway' into a big hit. The Highwaymen, featuring Kristofferson, Cash, Jennings and Nelson also covered his music. Guy Clark might not be a household name, but his songs are. They don’t make songwriters like him anymore." (MPR News)
Jane Little, a classical bassist, has died at age 87 after collapsing onstage during an encore. Having played with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1945, Little held the Guinness World Record as the longest-serving orchestral musician. (YourClassical)
Kesha barred from Billboard Music Awards
Kesha will not appear on Sunday's Billboard Music Awards as previously announced; her label has rescinded its permission. That label, Kemosabe Records, is run by Dr. Luke — and Kesha is currently in a protracted legal battle with Dr. Luke, attempting to get out of her contract after accusing the producer of sexual assault. Lou Reed box set coming
In the months before his death in 2013, Lou Reed was working on remasters of his solo albums. Those remasters will be released as a 16-disc set, Lou Reed — The RCA & Arista Album Collection, on Oct. 17. The set will cover Reed's solo releases from 1972 to 1986, and will include archival photos and new liner notes. (Pitchfork)

Itzhak Perlman boycotts NC
The latest musician to boycott North Carolina in protest of the state's "Bathroom Bill" is violinist Itzhak Perlman. "As my fans know, I have spent a lifetime advocating against discrimination toward those with physical disabilities and have been a vocal advocate for treating all people equally," said Perlman, who often uses a wheelchair as a result of childhood polio.
