"And if I laugh at any mortal thing," wrote Byron, "'Tis that I may not weep."
That's how you might feel if you walk into Bruegger's Bagels tomorrow: at all 35 Twin Cities locations, the chain will be selling purple bagels. The special bagels are in honor of Prince, of course — and they are to benefit a worthy cause, the Minnesota Music Coalition.
Under the leadership of executive director Ellen Stanley, the Minnesota Music Coalition supports independent musicians throughout the state. Sales of the purple bagels "will support the MMC's statewide program to provide mentoring and music industry training to the next generation of pop, rock and R&B artists," the coalition announced in a press release.
Bruegger's isn't the first eatery to (so to speak) roll out colored comestibles in honor of the late music icon: there have also been purple drinks and purple doughnuts.
