This Saturday, April 16 will mark the ninth year of Record Store Day. What started back in 2008 as a way to celebrate the unique culture that surrounds vinyl has today grown into an internationally recognized holiday. Record Store Day has become a reason for communities to come together along with store owners, employees and musicians to enjoy the wonder that is the record store.

As is the tradition, exclusive RSD 2016 releases from an extensive range of artists will be available in stores across six continents on Saturday. Many record stores in Minneapolis and St. Paul are going all out for the holiday, hosting local artist performances, food trucks, block parties and even a weekend-long marathon celebration. No matter where you find yourself this Record Store Day, you're bound to have a blast.

Here are the festivities happening at several local record stores across the Twin Cities this Saturday. Click the title of each store for further information from their website. Agharta Records guarantee they've ordered big in preparation for this weekend. Stop by the store at 11 a.m. to catch a performance by Depot Creek and enjoy the spinnings of local DJs throughout the day.

Just down the road from Agharta Records is Barley Brothers, a shop with a truly impressive selection of vinyl for their size. They will be hosting a handful of performers on Saturday, playing every hour on the hour from noon till 5.

This year Dead Media has partnered with Radio K to make all your Record Store Day dreams come true. Not only will all used records in the store be 15% off, but there will also be a host of live performances by the store's favorite local bands, as well as DJs from local record labels. The performances start as doors open and continue until closing at 8 p.m.

At Down in the Valley the fun officially starts at 9 a.m., although they warn that the lines start even earlier so be sure to plan ahead. There are several free giveaway opportunities, including grab bags full of promotional goodies, LP box sets, vinyl test pressings and concert tickets. All used vinyl, CD’s and DVD’s will also be 20% off all day long. Valley Pastries will be providing refreshments.

Eclipse Records boasts that they have not only the shortest lines in the city, but also the best selection of exclusive releases. DJs will be in-store all day, providing the perfect audio environment as you peruse the vinyl. Early birds will also have the opportunity to secure a limited edition Eclipse Records RSD 2016 poster. As an added bonus, you can bring your RSD purchase receipt next door to SubText Books for a 20% discount.

Once again the Electric Fetus is pulling out all the stops to provide you with an entire day of live music, delicious food, exclusive releases and giveaways. Peace Coffee will be available outside before doors open to provide stamina for those on a mission to get first pick at this year’s exclusive releases. Glam Doll Donuts and Intelligentsia Coffee will also be available at 9; and Bubble Boy Soda Fountain, Chef Shack, and Natedogs food trucks will be behind the store for all your snacking needs.

Also out back will be the Red Bull Sound Select lounge and the rockin’ kids’ craft lounge. There DJ Funsize will be spinning some kickin’ tracks as kids get creative with old vinyl. There will be several giveaways as well, including one for Music in the Zoo. The official Electric Fetus Record Store Day beer is back again this year; you can stop by Dangerous Man Brewing Co. to try a pint of the festive IPA, and save a buck off your beer if you show a Fetus receipt.

For those who just can’t bare to wait until 9 to secure all the vinyl on their wishlist, Extreme Noise Records is the place to be. They’ll be serving up vegan pastries as well as coffee and juice as doors open at 8 a.m. Free veggie dogs and soda will also be available around noon, which is when an in-store performance by Tormenta will take place.

Fans of deM atlaS will want to be sure Fifth Element is on their lists of shops to hit this RSD. One of the exclusive releases available on Saturday will be a limited edition DWNR vinyl with each record cover individually drawn by deM atlaS. deM atlaS will also be performing the album in store, along with performances by several other artists. Rhymesayers fans will also rejoice with 50% off Rhymesayers CDs and 20% off vinyl.

Ever feel that one day just isn’t long enough to properly celebrate all the glory that is collecting vinyl? The people down at Flashlight Vinyl (above) think so too. In fact, they're dedicating the whole weekend to celebrating. This year they are hosting a 36-hour marathon, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday and lasting until 8 p.m. on Sunday. This year Go Johnny Go has teamed up with Flashlight Vinyl and are holding all their RSD festivities there. Never fear though, they will still be open on Saturday for all your vinyl needs.

Those looking to support local music acts will want to check out this shop on Saturday. HiFi Hair and Records will have stock of reissues from both Soul Asylum and Hüsker Dü, as well as several new releases from local bands. There may also be a few more surprises in store for those who end up here on Saturday, but as of now nothing definite is scheduled.

Hymie’s is hosting their sixth annual RSD block party, celebrating local Twin Cities music with two stages worth of performances. This year, they are especially excited to share a special release by one of Minnesota’s music heroes, Charlie Parr. The I Ain't Dead Yet five-song EP is pressed on 10" green vinyl and features never-before-released originals. Charlie Parr will also be performing on the 39th Avenue Stage. A Live At Hymie’s LP is an exclusive release available on Saturday, featuring a dozen live recordings from the Hymie’s Records stage.

This hidden gem of a record store, located inside findfurnish, is a must stop for anyone looking specifically to go retro. While they admittedly won't have as many of the new RSD releases, they’re making up for it with an unbelievably groovy vintage stock.

Know Name Records has existed on Portland Avenue South since 1977, which means they have been supplying Minneapolis vinyl enthusiasts for 39 years. They can’t wait to celebrate this legacy on the most fitting of days. As part of the celebration, the owners have unearthed some of their archived vinyl to sell, which serves as a promising opportunity for those looking for an eclectic collection that won’t be found anywhere else.

Mill City Sound is also opening the vaults to their treasured collection of uncatalogued 45s and LPs and handing them over to non other than KFAI’s Vinyl Voices. These vinyl gurus will be playing these prized waxes in store to provide shoppers with the perfect RSD soundtrack. There will also be hourly giveaways to add to the fun.

You can acquire must-have vinyl, as well as RSD merch, at Roadrunner. Custom Roadrunner RSD 2016 t-shirts will be available while supplies last for $20 or free with a $100 purchase. Anyone sporting an old Roadrunner RSD t-shirt will also receive a free coupon. Also make sure to mosey out back for a weenie roast and acoustic jams from The Starfolk, Kinda Kinky, Ye Ye Pow, Runes Av Vaskeri, and The Carpetbaggers starting at noon.

Treehouse Records have been hoarding their very best used records to offer up on Saturday. They assure shoppers there will be some unexpected surprises among their collection.
