Bob Mould has released a new song from his forthcoming album Patch the Sky. The album comes out March 25, and Rolling Stone says that it's "prime-era, intense Mould, no more so than on one of the album's most pulverizing tracks, 'The End of Things.'"

Dr. Luke rumors fly

The Internet has been abuzz with rumors, reported in the Wrap, that Sony is about to drop superproducer Dr. Luke over his disputes with the pop star Kesha. Kesha has sued to be released from her contract with Dr. Luke and his production company, which is under the Sony umbrella; public pressure for Sony to release Kesha has been mounting, but the record company says it has no authority to do so since the contract in question is directly between Kesha and Dr. Luke. An attorney for the producer has denied the report of Dr. Luke's imminent release from Sony. "Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony,” the representative wrote to multiple publications. “His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony and this has never come up." Paul McCartney has joined a chorus of musicians paying tribute to the late George Martin. "He guided the career of The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family," wrote McCartney in a statement on his website. "If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George."

McCartney has announced the first stops on a "One on One Tour," promising "massive screens, lasers, fireworks and, of course, a staggering selection of the best songs ever written or performed." There are no Minnesota shows among the seven dates announced so far, but on May 2 he'll play Sioux Falls, S.D. for the first time in his career. (Star Tribune)

New Whitney Houston documentary coming, already controversial

Filmmaker Nick Broomfield, creator of infamous documentaries Kurt & Courtney (alleging that Courtney Love played a role in Kurt Cobain’s death) and Biggie and Tupac (alleging that Suge Knight planned the murders of both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.), has announced that his next subject will be the late Whitney Houston. Unsurprisingly, Houston's estate does not plan to cooperate with Broomfield and is already distancing itself from the project. (Billboard)

Sacha Baron Cohen talks about leaving Freddie Mercury biopic

Sacha Baron Cohen was previously set to star in a Freddie Mercury biopic that's currently in development, but he parted ways with the project as guitarist Brian May declared that Cohen was too recognizable to disappear into the role of Mercury. Now Cohen is saying that the reason was his desire to portray Mercury's wilder side — a desire Mercury's surviving Queen bandmates supposedly didn't share to the degree Cohen hoped. "It's less interesting as a movie," Cohen says about the version of the film that's now moving forward. (Billboard)

Latin music is tops in NYC radio

In a testament to the growing appetite for Latino media, Spanish-language tsfio station Mega 97.9 is now the top-rated station in New York City. Billboard credits the station with expanding its music playlist to attract a younger audience while also managing to hang on to its core listenership.
