Erik Brandt talks about 'Devil Music'
by Mike Pengra and Erik Brandt
March 04, 2016
St. Paul-based House of Mercy Recordings is releasing a new collection of songs by various artists, and all the songs are about the Devil. Yes. That guy. We know House of Mercy Recordings is "loosely" affiliated with House of Mercy Church, so to record an album of "devil music" makes one raise an eyebrow.
The concept for the album was created by Twin Cities musician Erik Brandt who also is the main guy at the record label. Erik is a member of the Urban Hillbilly Quartet, as well as the House of Mercy Band. He and his band have contributed a song to the collection, as has Charlie Parr, The Roe Family Singers, Miss Becky Kapell, the Mother Banjo Band, John Hermanson and many more.
The Twin Cities release concert is happening Sunday (March 6) at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Minn., featuring John Hermanson of Storyhill, Corpse Reviver and others. There is also a Duluth release party on March 13 with Charlie Parr, Matt Arthur and others at the Red Herring Lounge, as well as a Northfield, Minn., release party planned for early April.
Erik Brandt stopped in to the Radio Heartland studio to chat about Devil Music.
