Hip-Hop, History, and the Arts is a Twin-Cities-based arts program founded by Chadwick "Niles" Phillips that seeks to empower youth. It has been taught throughout the city to motivate aspiring musicians to take their careers further.

During the summer of 2015, Phillips led a program at FAIR School Downtown — teaching students how to write songs, about the ins-and-outs of the music business, and how to develop as artists. That led to the recording of a free seven-track EP, My Generation, at the Institute of Production and Recording Music College with Sudden Media, a rising production team of IPR students consisting of studio engineers, graphic designers and photographers.

Described as "a very unique music project that tells the students' stories of the generation they live in and what they face day to day in order to become successful in life," My Generation is a collection as diverse as those who brought it together - containing elements of hip-hop, spoken word, R&B, and rock and roll. "Intro" declares from the beginning the subversive tone that runs throughout the EP, "This my generation / Media paints and portray a portrait of us as reckless and selfish / Traits that could only be passed down from before / Acting as if their generation was any more."

A My Generation release party will be held Feb. 24 at IPR in the Live Lab Room. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to all ages.
