by Staff

February 09, 2016

Thanks to Kyle Matteson, one of the most assiduous local music fans, you can now stream the mixtape that was mailed to early-bird ticket buyers for this year's Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival. The tape, which is presumed to serve as at least a partial preview of this year's yet-to-be-announced lineup, includes a new collaboration between Justin Vernon and James Blake. Today's reunion news

Two years after their most recent breakup, Guided By Voices (GBV) are coming back — sort of. There's a new GBV album in the works; however, frontman Robert Pollard is playing every instrument on the album. The prolific Pollard is also working on a solo album, and will play the Sled Island music festival with a new GBV touring band. (Pitchfork)

The reunited LCD Soundsystem have also signed on to yet another festival gig: Ontario's Way Home Festival, which will also feature Arcade Fire and the Killers. (Billboard)

The Prince you won't be hearing

In a new oral history of Kendrick Lamar's instant classic To Pimp a Butterfly, it's revealed that Lamar wanted Prince to sing the hook of "Complexion (A Zulu Love)." When Lamar joined Prince in a studio, though, the two musicians "just ran out of time," says Lamar. "It's as simple as that." (Billboard)

In other Prince news, the Minnesota music legend has vigorously denied impresario John Giddings's assertion that Prince was considering playing the Isle of Wight Festival with a set of Jimi Hendrix covers. (Consequence of Sound)

Today's restaurant news

Business at Red Lobster restaurants is up by a third since Beyoncé gave the seafood chain a sultry shout-out in her new song "Formation." The chain's CEO says, "It's clear that Beyoncé has helped create some Red Lobster fans, and we are very grateful to her for that." The chain has discreetly refrained from commenting on the circumstances under which the song's lyrics say a gentleman might be brought to Red Lobster. (Billboard)

Unsolved mysteries

What does T.L.O.P. stand for? That's a question being posed by Kanye West, who says it's the latest name of his oft-renamed forthcoming album. West is offering sneakers and fashion show tickets to "anyone who can figure out the title." (Billboard)

Macabre memorabilia

A 50-year-old lock of John Lennon's hair, chopped for the Beatle's role in the movie How I Won the War, has been bid up to $12,000 (at time of this writing) in an online auction. (Billboard)

House music

David Crosby has premiered a new song, "Somebody Home," that he wrote for and sings on a forthcoming album by pop orchestra Snarky Puppy. (Rolling Stone)

A new trailer for the forthcoming Full House reboot Fuller House features a snippet of pop starlet Carly Rae Jepsen's new version of the show's theme song "Everywhere You Look." Catch it on Billboard.
