David Bowie tribute concert to be held at Parkway Theater
January 25, 2016
As we pass the two-week mark since David Bowie's death, it's becoming clear that this is a loss the world may never truly get over. A local tribute to David Bowie has just been announced for Minneapolis's Parkway Theater on Feb. 19th: "We Can Be Heroes: The Bowie Tribute."
The tribute will feature special guests Dave Pirner (founder of Soul Asylum) and Phil Solem of the Rembrandts — as well as Julius Collins (Greazy Meal, Sons of Almighty), Michael Bland (Prince, Soul Asylum), Jeremy Ylvislaker (The Suburbs, Greazy Meal), Brian Gallagher (Prince, Greazy Meal), Cory Eischen (Sleep Study), and Winston Roye (Soul Asylum).
Covering Bowie's many works, the tribute will tackle his cultural significance and the many artistic styles Bowie embodied over the years. The press release promises "a circus-like atmosphere of art, fashion, androgyny, and spoken vignettes," with large-scale art created by Jeremi Hanson.
In a surprise appearance at The Current's 11th Birthday Party on Saturday, Pirner gave the audience what might have been a preview of the Parkway show: a poignant cover of Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust."
The show is 21+ with music at 9:00 p.m. (doors 7:30 p.m.). You can buy tickets in advance for $35.00 here. Click here to read more of our commemorative David Bowie coverage, and enter for a chance to win a Station to Station box set.
