When this weekend's massive snowstorm forced the postponement of a Madison Square Garden show by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Boss decided to soften the blow for fans who are bummed to miss out — even if only temporarily — on the tour, which features front-to-back performances of Springsteen's entire River album at each stop. Springsteen has made a recording of the Jan. 19 Chicago show available as a free download through 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday. In addition to The River album and other Springsteen songs, the Jan. 19 show featured a performance of the Eagles' "Take it Easy" in tribute to the late Glenn Frey. (Rolling Stone)
Newsweek has obtained exclusive details on forthcoming releases involving the work of David Bowie. The bad news: Bowie did not leave a memoir, or any other book. The good news: he did plan "a long list" of archival music releases, presumably featuring outtakes, demos, and rarities from various phases of his career. The first of those is expected by the end of next year. Additionally, performers from Bowie's musical Lazarus are recording a cast album — and there's discussion of extending the tour of the David Bowie Is museum exhibition.
