Weekend Arts Roundup: Hennepin Avenue
November 12, 2015
MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jill Riley and Sean McPherson to talk about dance, visual arts and theater offerings happening all within walking distance of one another on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis.
Here's the rundown:
Zenon Dance Company — The Zenon Dance Company, known for its creation of modern and jazz blend of dance, will present two world premieres this weekend at the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts.
"Leave of Absence" — At the Burnet Art Gallery at Le Méridien Chambers, a new show of drawings by Alyssa Baguss called "Leave of Absence" opens this week. The theme centers on traveling digitally, and it looks at how our sense of exploration has changed in an age where we spend a lot of time looking at photos on our devices while at home. The opening reception is Friday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Emilie/Eurydice — Local theater company Transatlantic Love Affair has earned a good reputation for its dynamic, beautiful pieces. Emilie/Eurydice looks at how one balances grieving and hope through the story of a family coping with a relative in a coma. This play stages at the Illusion Theater on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis and it runs through Saturday, Nov. 21.
