Rose Cousins performs in the Radio Heartland studio
by Mike Pengra and Rose Cousins

"Blown away" doesn't quite do enough to describe my reaction to the first time I heard Rose Cousins sing. She has an unusual gift, and now, because of her interpretation of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind," I have a new appreciation for both his music and her voice. Rose's latest project is an EP collection of six songs: two originals and four covers. It's called Stray Birds.
I had a chance to talk with Rose Cousins while she was in the area touring with Mary Chapin Carpenter. We talked about her roots in Prince Edward Island and her two other "hometowns" of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Boston, Mass., … and her love of music: her own as well as that of her friends.
