9:30 Coffee Break: All Bands North
by Jill Riley and Sean McPherson
July 24, 2015
This weekend, staff members from The Current are headed to Duluth, Minn., for a weekend of summer fun and live music. Among the activities on the agenda is an afternoon of live music and local brews at the All Pints North Summer Brew Fest.
Duluth is located north of our studio in St. Paul, Minn., and it's got us thinking about bands that are from places north of St. Paul.
We tend to think of St. Paul as being a northern city, situated as it is at 45° North Latitude, but it turns out there are a lot of bands who come from cities north of the 45th parallel. And here's a surprise geography lesson for some of you: Toronto is actually located south of the Twin Cities, and Montreal is at the same latitude as St. Paul.
So let's take out our compasses, Mercator projections and surveyor transits: For today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear by bands who are from cities located north of St. Paul? Send us your requests.
Songs Played
Phoenix "Lisztomania"
ABBA "S.O.S."
Sigur Rós "Við Spilum Endalaust"
Led Zeppelin "Immigrant Song"
Tegan and Sara "Nineteen"
A-Ha "Take on Me"
Do you deserve a Coffee Break? We at The Current's Morning Show think you do, and we want to bring treats from Morningstar Coffee and Café Latté to your workplace. Let us know why you'd like a Coffee Break.
