Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine's Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl brings her extensive knowledge of the Midwest dining scene to Eating and Drinking.

Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl stops by The Current's Morning Show to talk about scratch diners — those places where they make everything from scratch. One of the places Dara describes is Nighthawks, which recently opened in Minneapolis. (You can also read Dara's review of Nighthawks in Mpls St. Paul magazine.)

"Everything from scratch, it's a real diner, the hash browns are beautiful," Dara says. "It's so good."

One of the menu items Dara is particularly fond of is the turkey sandwich "This is what I moved to the Midwest for," Dara says, "to encounter this exact sandwich!"

Dara, Jill and Sean talk about some of their favorite diners, including the Grandview Grill and Mickey's Diner. They also discuss what menu items indicate a good diner. "The hash browns are maybe the make or break," Dara says. "That's the thing I always order to find out are they actually grating their own potatoes?"

"There's something about everything being homemade," Jill adds.
