Interview: Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes
by Jade and Taylor Goldsmith
June 02, 2015
As his long-running late-night series was winding down, David Letterman introduced Dawes by saying, "If you're looking for a rock and roll band, this is pretty much all you need."
It's high praise indeed, and it's fitting given the title of Dawes' fourth studio album, All Your Favorite Bands, which comes out today. "It's the title track, [and] the full line is, 'May all your favorite bands stay together'," says Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith. "I feel like the feeling that goes along with that statement is something that represents us and represents this album particularly … When you tell someone your favorite band, you give them a taste of what kind of person you are."
Goldsmith spoke to The Current's Jade by telephone on the day of the new album's release. Jade and Goldsmith spoke about the new record and about the band's upcoming tour schedule.
As happens whenever a new album comes out, a band gets very busy touring in support of it, but Goldsmith and Dawes have an interesting approach to keeping their sanity. "We kind of shifted what feels like home to being on the road. So now, rather than ever feeling homesick, we start to feel toursick," Goldsmith explains. "We've gotten so used to how that works."
Ultimately, touring is about the music. "We're really looking forward to it," Goldsmith says. "As of now, I can't wait to play music every night."
All Your Favorite Bands is out now on Hub Records.
