The DMA's perform in The Current studio
by Bill DeVille, Leah Garaas and The DMA's
June 01, 2015
Despite having only one EP under their belt, the DMA's are already making waves across the pond. The Sydney three-piece—Tommy O'Dell, Matt Mason and Johnny Took—have performed at a handful of festivals this spring with Bonnaroo just around the corner.
In town for a gig in First Avenue's 7th St. Entry, the DMA's stopped by The Current to record an in-studio session and to chat with host Bill DeVille.
Two years ago the DMA's posted a song to their YouTube channel and were signed to Australia's I OH YOU Records shortly thereafter (they're signed to Mom + Pop Records stateside). Some might say the DMA's channel the '90s Britpop movement. At least Dave Rowntree of Blur, one of the handful of bands that truly popularized the genre, thinks so, saying that the DMA's combine "the swagger of Oasis and the musicality and inventiveness of Arctic Monkeys."
Listen to the full in-studio session to hear Took and Mason chat with Deville about their day off in Minneapolis, Jucy Lucys and their new found love of playing darts.
