alt-J lost out at the Grammy Awards over the weekend but they regain the top spot on our Chart — some consolation! They have a busy spring lined up here in the States playing their first Madison Square Garden show and Coachella. Here's the full tour schedule and a thoughtful video interview with the band via Consequence of Sound.

Lots of crazy stories from Sunday night's Grammy Awards! Congrats to Sam Smith (Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album), Aphex Twin (Best Dance/Electronic Album) and St. Vincent (Best Alternative Music Album) on their wins. St. Vincent's Annie Clark decided it was time to thank everyone with a strangely twisted note about the horrors of her early career tours. Beck was the big surprise Grammys winner beating out the favorite Beyonce for Album of the Year with Morning Phase, much to the chagrin of Kanye West. Morning Phase also won Best Rock Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Rhiannon Giddens is the soul female member of the New Basement Tapes, who are the highest climbers this week from #14 to #4. Formally in the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Giddens just released her first solo record, Tomorrow Is My Turn, which she discussed with NPR Music.
Sleater-Kinney slipped a few places this week, but they're off to a good start on their "reunion" tour and will play a sold out show at First Avenue this Saturday with Lizzo opening. If you're going to the show, spoiler alert: here's their 23-song set list from their first show in nine years.
Lizzo is also in the news for being one of the first artists, along with Doomtree who are back up to #11, announced as part of Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner's Eaux Claires Festival lineup. The duo talked with Steel Seel of The Current's Morning Show about all the details today, revealing that both Bon Iver and the National will play the inaugural festival. Here's the full lineup.
There are three new entries this week: Courtney Barnett, JD McPherson and Bjork. Her new album Vulnicura wasn't supposed to release until March when she has a big, immersive retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art but was pushed up after it was leaked online. The only shows announced so far are timed to coincide with that show NYC, including two matinees at Carnegie Hall!
Bob Boilen of NPR calls Courtney Barnett the best lyricist around, and her new entry "Pedestrian at Best" is an "internal monologue crammed with twisting rhymes, inside jokes and self-deprecation." Check out Faster Louder, an Aussie website that details the local connections that the single and video have.
JD McPherson crashes into the basement spot this week ahead of his Friday show at First Avenue. He recently discussed his new album Let the Good Times Roll with NPR Music calling it "'50s psychedelic" induced by some expired Tylenol PM!?
