Rupert Angeleyes performs live in The Current studio

When a musician performs under a moniker, sometimes the focus shifts from the music onto the performer's persona. How much of Rupert Angeleyes is Kyle Sobczak and how much of Kyle Sobczak is Rupert Angeleyes? "You know in Men in Black where there's a little alien inside of that old guy's head and he's running the controls? I feel like Rupert Angeleyes is the real alien on the inside," explains Sobczak.
But the themes on Rupert Angeleyes' laissez-faire, Bobby Vinton-inspired album are close to Kyle Sobczak's personal life. Rupert Angeleyes' fourth album, Young Sunset, is about love just as much as it isn't. Sobczak says he constantly battles with the belief of love, and it's pronounced: track five is titled "I Don't Believe in Love", track seven is titled "I Believe in Love." It's complicated but not for the faint of heart.
Rupert Angeleyes—Kyle Sobczak (guitar/vocals), Orion Treon (guitar) and Sergio Hernandez (keys) of Phantom Tails, Michael Sienkowski (drums) and Skyler Nowinski (bass)—play the Kitty Cat Klub on Saturday, Feb. 21 with the Sex Rays, Waveless, and Milwaukee's Sat. Night Duets.
