Son Little performs live in The Current studio

When it comes to music making, Aaron Livingston has been in the background for a long time. He's ready to come forward. Performing under the moniker Son Little, Livingston stopped by The Current studio to record a session for New Hot with host David Safar.
Son Little has worked with Mavis Staples and the Roots who, along with longtime friend and musician RJD2, gave him a "foot to the pants" encouraging him to record solo material. It's taken some time to produce his own songs, but Livingston feels confident that time spent recording with other artists has enabled him to sort out his sound.
"It's a futuristic take on old soul," says Son Little when describing his forthcoming full-length. No release date via ANTI- has been set yet, but his debut EP Things I Forgot is out now. And it doesn't come without thoughtful songwriting both harmonically and lyrically.
Coupled with smooth and slinky grooves, verses heard throughout Things I Forgot have double meanings. "I love duality," explains Son Little. "It ["Cross My Heart"] is a promise to carry the weight of tragedy."
