You can't buy pipes like Sia's, but you can buy what comes out of them: tonight, a sealed jar of the singer's breath will be auctioned off to raise money to support filmmakers in her native Adelaide, Australia. "Gorgeously and magnificently, she breathed into a jar for us," says the director of the film festival where the auction will take place. "Her breath is in a Mason jar with silver sealing wax, so no one can accidentally open it. Whoever wins will be able to break the seal—or just let it be." (Billboard)
When Guided By Voices broke up recently, they canceled all upcoming shows—including an Oct. 25 gig at the C2G Music Hall in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The venue scheduled a GBV tribute show in place of the real thing, but then Bob Pollard and Tobin Sprout of Guided By Voices showed up anyway to play a full dozen songs. (The Fire Note)
The most recent artists to launch their own digital music service are Phish: they're offering fans unlimited streaming of their entire catalog—including live recordings, side projects, and archival tracks—for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year via their LivePhish app. (Consequence of Sound)
On Wednesday night in Nashville (in fact, in the house that stars as Rayna Jaymes's estate on Nashville), Paul Simon performed an eight-song acoustic set at a house show in tribute to the late Phil Everly. Simon's show, which included a cover of Everly's song "When Will I Be Loved," was for an audience paying up to $30,000 a ticket—but it was for a good cause. The event raised nearly $200,000 to fight COPD, the lung disorder that led to Everly's death. (Rolling Stone)
"She's a slippery little fish is Adele," said Phil Collins, who said he finished a song that Adele started—but then he didn't hear anything more about what became of it. "And now I’ve heard there’s a [new album] coming out," Collins told Q magazine. "I’m not on it, I know that." (NME)
If Van Halen wanted him back, Sammy Hagar says he'd be up for a reunion—but not because he's short on cash. "I've had f--k me money," the singer told Rolling Stone. "Now I have f--k you money."
