Interview: Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys
by Jill Riley and Dan Auerbach
October 29, 2014
Before their big Minneapolis gig with opening act Jake Bugg last Friday, Oct. 24, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys chatted with Jill Riley of The Current's Morning Show backstage at the Target Center.
On Mike Tyson announcing the release of Turn Blue on Twitter: "We [the Black Keys] let him use a couple of songs in a documentary he was making and he called us both to thank us which was really nice. When he called us he said, "Let me know if I can ever do anything to help you." Two weeks later, y'know, we were having a meeting about the release of the album and thought it'd be nice if we had some sort of interesting way to announce the record, and so that's how it happened. We called in our favor. Almost immediately. He's the man."
On what's next for Dan Auerbach as a producer: "I'm always in the studio. Constantly. Just a couple of weeks ago I was messing around in the studio with Action Bronson."
On what the Black Keys look forward to when touring through Minneapolis: "This is one of those cities that has a lot of great things going for it. A lot of great music shops, record shops, guitar stores. We used to crave the Jucy Lucy ... back in our burger days."
