Over the past ten years, a number of outstanding local artists have graced the cover of Live Current, our annual compilation album. After iconic artists Adam Turman, Tom Hazelmayer, Chank Diesel, Burlesque of North America, Aesthetic Apparatus and others, who would The Current turn to for our tenth album cover? The audience.
Matt Perkins, The Current's Marketing Manager, explains: "It's ten years, we've gone through a lot of artists, so wanted to go big, and open it up to a lot of different people." So Perkins and his colleagues put out a call for submissions and they received more than 70 applications.
Jesse Lindhorst, a Minneapolis designer explains how he heard about the project: "I got an email from a friend from college — I went to UW Stout — and she knew I was interested in design and music, so when she saw the tweet, she sent me an email and I applied."
Perkins said, "As soon as we came across Jesse's design, and the work that he had done to date, it really resonated with the community impact we strive to be a part of every day."
Explaining his pitch, Lindhorst said, "I wanted to bring forth the community and the experiences that music brings up within the community, so i started playing around with those ideas."
"I obviously wanted to represent the big number 10, but also show the community within it. So I drew out a bunch of different characters that represented all sorts of people from the community: cyclists, photographers, babies, people dancing, having picnics, kids playing in the park, anything that brings forth that feeling and the memories that music brings up."
