July 16, 2014

Tuesday's always a big release day, and yesterday saw eye-catching new videos from Jenny Lewis—who premiered a video for her new solo track "One of the Guys," featuring Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, and Brie Larson—and from "Weird Al" Yankovic, who continued his week of video premieres by remaking Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" as "Word Crimes." (weirdal.com) Stewart's performance in the "One of the Guys" video has already inspired at least one in-depth analysis.

The director and producer of Midnight Rider, a planned biopic about Gregg Allman, have been booked in Georgia on charges of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Sarah Jones, a camera assistant who died after being struck by a train while making the movie in February. Allman has since sued to stop production on the film, and members of the cast and crew made a public service announcement promoting on-set safety in the wake of Jones's death. (KPCC)

Fair Trade Music? A movement spreading across the country is asking live music venues to guarantee that musicians are paid what the organizers assess as a "living wage." Venues that agree to pay musicians a given amount—for example, $230 for a solo performer headlining a large venue—and agree to certain conditions regarding equipment and facilities (such as adequate dressing rooms and load-in space) can become Fair Trade certified. In local news, the Turf Club—having been closed for renovations over the summer—will re-open for concerts starting August 28, possibly a few days sooner for food and drink. First Ave is now accepting applications for new Turf Club staff. (City Pages)

Drake's new album will be called Views from the Six, a reference to the 416 area code of his native Toronto. The album is expected next spring. (Consequence of Sound) And that's today's music news from here in the One.
