Movie Maven: 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'; 'The Broken Circle Breakdown'
November 22, 2013
MPR Movie Maven and Cube Critic Stephanie Curtis talks to Steve Seel and Jill Riley about the latest adventure featuring Katniss Everdeen and about a Belgian film that looks at friendship and bluegrass music.
Stephanie describes the newest installment in the Hunger Games franchise as having an epic feel and being a great pop-culture movie. Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss, and Woody Harrelson and Philip Seymour Hoffman turn in excellent performances. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is directed by Francis Lawrence (no relation to female lead Jennifer) and is rated PG-13. The film is screening in very wide release.
Meanwhile, for those seeking more grown-up fare, Stephanie suggests The Broken Circle Breakdown, a Belgian film that follows the friendship of two women who bond over bluegrass music. The Broken Circle Breakdown is unrated an is playing at the Landmark Lagoon Cinema in Minneapolis.
MPR's Movie Maven, Stephanie Curtis, joins The Current's Morning Show to talk about films every Friday at 8:30 a.m.
