Lizzo performs for The Local Show
by David Campbell, Jon Schober and Lizzo

There is perhaps no greater local success story over the past year than that of Lizzo's. A transplant from Houston and Detroit, she made a splash in the Twin Cities first with her band Lizzo and The Larva Ink, and then as a member of The Chalice and GRRRL PRTY. All of these bands have grown her profile substantially, and a slew of guest spots on other local records from the likes of Caroline Smith, as well as her connection with the Totally Gross National Product and Doomtree crews has only helped in that growth.
Last year, Lizzo's visibility shot to the forefront when The Chalice was crowned Picked To Click by CityPages. But it wasn't all a celebration — the women in the trio realized quickly they needed to put out more material as new fans became ravenous. That sent Lizzo into a writer's block that took her a while to get out of. Then she heard Lazerbeak's Lavabangers and Lizzo knew exactly how to snap out of her funk.
Lizzobangers is Lizzo's collaboration with Doomtree's Lazerbeak, a collection of true "bangers" that have already been picked up by music publications across the world like NME and The Guardian. 2013 has proven to be a fruitful year for the young rapper, and her continuing tour with Har Mar Superstar and forthcoming dates with Polica will only cement her status in the Twin Cities and abroad.
Songs performed: "T-Baby," "What You Mean," "Go" and "Faded"
