Franz Ferdinand perform in studio
by Barb Abney and Franz Ferdinand
August 27, 2013
Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand are basking in the glow of their new release, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, and band members Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy recently visited with The Current's Barb Abney to talk about the new record.
Alex and Nick shed some light on their songwriting process, and talk about how the album was recorded in Stockholm, London and Glasgow. They also describe their collaboration with Peter Bjorn & John, and with Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip.
On a philosophical level, Alex shares how he has been influenced by the book Lanark by Alasdair Gray, particularly when it comes to drawing strength from vulnerability during live performance. And on a lighter note, Nick and Alex talk about how it's actually a good thing to wind up covered in beer when playing at Glasgow's famed Barrowland Ballroom.
