Glasgow's CHVRCHES (which, yes, is pronounced "churches") are one of the acts that emerged from this year's South by Southwest with an aura of buzz, and it's not hard to see why: their yearning, epic electro-pop anthems pack an awesome emotional and melodic wallop, thanks in no small part to singer Lauren Mayberry's captivating voice. The trio includes members of Scottish alt-rock staples like Aerogramme and the Twilight Sad, and first caught indie listeners' attention with the buzzed-about track "The Mother We Share" last year. "Recover," the title track of their recently released EP, is a step forward for the young band, with Mayberry's vocals expertly treading the line between dark introspection and full-throated euphoria. You'll hear that track starting this week on The Current, and if you enjoy it, be sure to give CHVRCHES a warm welcome at their Minneapolis gig at the Fine Line Music Cafe.
