Carolina Chocolate Drops perform in The Current studio
January 23, 2008
The Carolina Chocolate Drops are on a mission to connect old style music and traditional instruments with young people and new sounds.
That's why they felt perfectly comfortable at a recent Minneapolis concert playing a hip-hop tune on fiddle and banjo while groups of high school students did the electric slide.
"And we did a square dance as well," said guitarist Dom Flemons. "That's kind of the lifeblood of what we do," added banjo player Rhiannon Giddens.
Giddens, Flemons, and fiddler Justin Robinson visited our studios to talk with Dale Connelly and Jim Ed Poole.
Songs performed: "Will Adams' Breakdown," and "John Henry."
