Soul Asylum recorded their latest studio album, Hurry Up and Wait, with a long-time studio collaborator co-producer John Fields, who also worked on the band’s previous three albums, including their most recent effort, 2016’s Change of Fortune. In addition, the group also decamped to a familiar spot: Nicollet Studios, the same place Soul Asylum recorded one of their seminal early albums released on Twin/Tone Records, the 1986 LP While You Were OutHurry Up and Wait was released on April 17, 2020 to much fan and critical acclaim worldwide landing the band their highest Billboard Chart position since 1995’s Platinum-selling Let Your Dim Light Shine.

Spanning three decades, Soul Asylum’s indie success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up And the Horse They Rode In On, before achieving a platinum-level commercial breakthrough with 1992’s Grave Dancers Union (certified 3x Platinum), featuring the international hits “Runaway Train,” which won a 1994 Grammy as Best Rock Song, and “Black Gold.” After 1998’s Candy from a Stranger, Soul Asylum returned to action in 2006 with The Silver Lining, followed by Delayed Reaction six years later in 2012.

The current Soul Asylum line-up features Dave Pirner as lead vocals/guitar, Michael Bland on drums, Ryan Smith on lead guitar, and Wynston Roye on bass.

Originally formed as a one-off band for a Halloween party in 2019, Low Rats received such a warm reception they quickly recognized their explosive potential. Writing original music influenced primarily by the obscure and seedy underbelly of 1950s, 60s and 70s Punk and Rock and Roll, they began gigging regionally and nationally honing their recklessly fun live shows and infectious songs to razor sharpness.

The band's debut full-length record, Year of the Rat MMXX, was released in late 2020 and was picked as one of the Star Tribune's best Minnesota albums of the year. They have received regular airplay on The Current 89.3 FM and KFAI 90.3 FM and have performed on The Current's "Sounds Like Home" Virtual music festival as well as MCN6 "Bands On Vans". Low Rats is currently back in the studio working on new music for upcoming releases.

The unique fuzzpop sound of The Mood Swings developed when guitarist/songwriter Ashley Ackerson joined forces with kindred spirit Sallie Watson in the early 2000s and started cutting some 4-track demos. A little punk here, a little 60s garage there, a lot of attitude everywhere – The Mood Swings sound melded all these ingredients into hard hitting tunes prickly with pop hooks, sharp-witted lyrics and searing guitars.

The Mood Swings released three ace albums on Susstones from 2005-2009, all produced by the late, great Ed Ackerson. These albums featured catchy tunes with an edge and a bit of psychedelic mayhem thrown in. During this time, The Mood Swings greatly expanded their sonic palette and perfected a winning live show that showcased well-crafted original songs mixed in with expertly curated covers.

Following her tenure in The Mood Swings, Ashley joined forces with her husband Ed to launch their new project BNLX, a subversive noise punk outfit that dispatched over a dozen releases in the 2010s while slamming audiences using a two-pronged strategy that combined a blistering audio/visual attack with provocative songwriting.

After a long hiatus, The Mood Swings reunited in July 2021 with rhythm section Mike Reiter (drums) and Mark Wade (bass) for a live birthday celebration of Ed Ackerson's music.
