Museum of Failure
Monday, November 8
11:00 am
Mall of America
Bloomington, Minn.
This event is featured in The Current Fall Guide, highlighting both musical and non-musical things to do this fall in the Twin Cities and beyond.
Some of America’s greatest inventions have come from Minnesota: water skis, flight data recorders, pizza rolls. Even the indoor shopping mall got its start here, but this fall a mall is home to a collection of ignominious inventions. According to organizers, the Museum of Failure “brings together over 159 products and services that were a total flop but also paved the way for other great inventions.” We’re talking Coke II, fat-free Pringles, and Nokia’s early attempt to merge a phone with a Game Boy. It’s now open at Mall of America, and it just might remind you why Medtronic founder Earl Bakken said, “failure is closer to success than inaction.” (Jay Gabler)
