Night Moves

Minneapolis-based quartet Night Moves returned in July 2022 with The Redaction EP, a short cinematic collage, harmoniously shaped together to create an EP that seamlessly blends psychedelia with a classic cozy twang. With legendary producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Horsegirl, Kurt Vile, Dinosaur Jr.) lending a hand, the resulting songs prove the band's evolution as songwriters, still trading in massive pop hooks that manage to convey yearning melancholy with a sense of maturity and perspective.

The Redaction includes the thrumming “As Innocent Looking As Candy,” a breathless meditation on gun violence, as well as the previously released “spaced-out classic” (Stereogum) "Feel Another Day,” “surreal” (Brooklyn Vegan) “Vulnerable Hours,” “psychedelic” (Under The Radar) “Fallacy Actually," as well as a handful of new songs.

These aren’t pandemic songs… more a bit of unfinished business that the pandemic allowed to be fulfilled. The band and Agnello had worked together previously on the band’s second album, 2016’s Pennied Days. That album was set to be made at Pachyderm Studios but had to be relocated when studio owner John Kuker sadly passed away on the eve of the recording dates.

With the band restless after the campaign for their third album, Can You Really Find Me (2019), which was prematurely cut short by COVID-19, they did their best to keep busy: writing songs, building greenhouses in South Dakota for a friend, rehearsing the aforementioned songs. Out of that came a brace of new tunes that simply called out to be documented.

The funny thing is that, for anyone that’s ever spent an inordinate amount of time in a recording studio, the process of making an album is its own social distancing of sorts. So the notion of getting a cohort together in the moment actually made strangely perfect sense under the circumstances.

New songs honed and selected, the band re-approached Agnello to get feedback on the material and working together again. The idea was met with enthusiasm, and everyone converged on the idyllic, secluded Pachyderm Studios for a hectic, bustling week of creation and homage.

Solid Gold

The Minneapolis-based synth-rockers [Solid Gold] -- who were making gorgeously psychedelic hippie grooves before Tame Impala could afford its first Roland keyboard – are back with their first new song in six years. [...] Singer Zach Coulter and his multi-instrumentalist bandmates Matt Locher and Adam Hurlburt are currently finishing off a record for release sometime next year. The first taste of it is a slow-bobbing tune titled “Towns,” which sounds like it could’ve also been used for the long-rumored second Gayngs album (the supegroup these guys also had a hand in).

“Towns” was recorded with production/engineering help from Josh Berg (who’s worked with Kanye and Mac Miller) and Ryan Olcott (ex-12 Rods frontman). Other details of the album have yet to be revealed. Coulter described the origins of the song this way: “"We started melding ‘Towns’ together in Matt's basement. I had the synth top line and a basic structure. The lyrics came shortly after and are all about seducing the idea of 'Faith' as a person in order to destroy it." [Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune]

Ivers

Ivers is a Minneapolis-based indie band that began writing music in the summer of 2020. Members Megan Fritz, Henry Hughes, Fiona Juarez-Sweeney, and Martín Corral have been playing together since 2021 and the group is best known for their intimate, nostalgic, and catchy lyrics and melodies, as well as energetic live performances.

Their debut EP, Closet Wine, has accumulated over one million streams and has been featured on Spotify editorial playlists like “All New Indie”, “Fresh Finds”, “Fresh Finds: Indie”, and “softly”. It offers an honest yet hopeful perspective on youthfulness, growth, and navigating life’s changes; reminding listeners that they aren’t alone in their ups and downs.

Their sophomore EP, Best Behavior, brings a fresh sound to Ivers, leaning more indie-rock than their previous work. This body of work also introduces a new sense of vulnerability surrounding interpersonal relationships, finding balance, and coming to terms with feeling uneasy.

Ivers leaves listeners feeling at-home at shows, seen in their struggles, and excited for the next chapter of life.
