Kinda Kinky's legendary holiday show moves to The Parkway Theater in south Minneapolis this year — celebrating ten years of hosting their annual food drive for The Food Group. This highly anticipated once-a-year event from the Twin Cities' premiere Kinks tribute band always includes a stellar list of some of the area's finest musicians. Holiday attire is encouraged! The Food Group is an innovative Minnesota food bank dedicated to serving the hunger needs of our changing communities. Kinda Kinky stages this annual benefit concert not only to help in the local fight against hunger, but to shift the spotlight to their talented friends. Attendees are asked to please bring a non-perishable food item or make a cash donation to The Food Group at the event.
A cavalcade of guest vocalists will join the band onstage throughout the evening, providing unique renditions of songs from The Kinks canon. Kinda Kinky have a vast repertoire of 135+ Kinks songs at their disposal. Perennial favorite guests this year include Curtiss A and Gini Dodds, Christopher Lynch, Emily and Jim Ruiz, Cindy Lawson, Ben Glaros, Brian Just, Stephanie Winter, and Kiki Lane. Original Kinda Kinky bass player Lynn Von Sien will sit in on a few numbers as well. Kinda Kinky are a band exclusively devoted to the music of The Kinks. Mixing the hits like You Really Got Me, Lola, and Come Dancing with deeper album cuts, the band transports the audience on a rockin’ journey back in time. Seasoned vets of the Twin Cities music scene from such past and present local faves as The Funseekers, Spectors, Lolo’s Ghost, Run Westy Run (among many others), these well-respected men are one of the most disciplined, hard-working acts in town. Fronted by the uncanny Ray Davies soundalike Dave Randall, along with sparring partner Keith Patterson and the formidable rhythm section of Paul McFarland and Steve Kent, they are a Minnesota musical treasure. Kinda Kinky are more preservation society than tribute band - eschewing the typical costumes and posturing while embracing the musicality, attitude, and live chops of the original act.
