Celebrating Lene Lovich's Debut Album
October 07, 2023
This week we’re celebrating the 45th anniversary of the debut album from Lene Lovich. An expatriate native of Detroit, of Yugoslavian and English descent, Lene Lovich found her voice in London, having moved there with her family as a teenager. Stateless, released in October 1978, is built on the foundational elements of what was the burgeoning New Wave scene – a mix of baroque and Euro-cabaret, with pixilated pop arrangements often powered by an R & B dance beat. Along with her colorful costumes and mannered, theatrical delivery – Lene Lovich soon earned a school of dedicated followers, leading to chart success, both here in the US and in the UK. Let’s celebrate a pioneering New Wave female artist!
