This week Teenage Kicks is revisiting Labour of Love, the fourth studio album from British reggae & pop band, UB40. Released forty years ago in September 1983, Labour of Love is UB40’s first of four albums featuring all covers, with the band paying tribute to some of their favorite reggae songs released between 1969 and 1972, including the song that became UB40’s first world-wide number one single. But unbeknownst to the band at the time the album was being recorded, what became their most famous track was not originally released as a reggae song – and in fact, was penned and first recorded by American balladeer, Neil Diamond.
