The Time Machine drops in on 1980 this time, the year John Lennon was gunned down in New York City. Bruce Springsteen released his only two-album set, The River, which became his first number-one album. U2 dropped their debut. The Clash upped the ante, unleashing the three-album set Sandinista!
Meanwhile, in the States, there were big albums from Talking Heads and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Stevie Wonder rolled into the ‘80s with the reggae-influenced Hotter than July album. Speaking of reggae, Bob Marley issued his final album; he died of cancer the following year.
It's all 1980, our year on this episode of Time Machine Tuesday.
