The Stranglers
August 28, 2021
This week on Teenage Kicks, we highlight one of the more unique bands of the punk and post-punk era: The Stranglers. When punk declared Year Zero in 1977, The Stranglers were one of the bands who sneaked in under the wire, morphing from pub rock to punk, and later incorporating new wave, goth rock, art rock, and even a bit of sophistipop into their sound. With dozens of U.K. hits, the Stranglers were able to evolve and carry on for more than 40 years. The Stranglers, who lost keyboardist Dave Greenfield to COVID-19 in May 2020, have a new album on the way in September, but this week, we'll play some of their earlier sounds.
