Album of the Week: Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, 'Soul Of A Woman'

Late in 2016, the world lost one of music's most loved independent voices. Despite her openness with fans about her illness, it cut deep when Sharon Jones departed this planet. A year later, a much talked-about posthumous release finally hit stores as a reminder that her voice is both timeless and immortal.
Completed by her label and bandmates after she passed, Soul of a Woman, encapsulates exactly what the title describes. It's a celebration of Sharon Jones' voice, and the gift that she gave us all. Her optimism and energy shines through on the album that moves from upbeat soul to emotional ballads. She was a reminder that you never give up on your dreams and that you'll never be let down if you believe in yourself and embrace the lessons of finding the love in others.
There's little more to say about Soul of a Woman, so here's my advice: As the year comes to a close, give the gift of music to someone in your life. That's what Sharon Jones did for us, and even in her absence, it's the gift that will keep on giving.
