Tabah perform in The Current's studios
by Andrea Swensson and Cecilia Johnson
April 03, 2017
"This'll go by faster than you think," host Andrea Swensson told rock band Tabah just before they started their session in The Current's studios. "Such is life," a member of the band replied, bringing on a round of chuckles. Though offhand, the crack typifies Tabah's attitude and even foreshadows their music -- they carry not only a sense of humor but also a sense of gravity.
This spring, Tabah released their debut album, Symmetry Somewhere, a sprawling 14-track project with brisk highs and smoldering lows. Band members Cecelia Erholtz (vocals/guitar), Charlie Bruber (bass), Murphy Janssen (drums), Jeff Ley (guitar), and Andrew Seitz (keys) recorded it at Welcome to 1979 studio in Nashville, Tenn., bunking in an Airbnb on a cattle pasture. Since their release show at the Turf, they've played several sets to support the album, including a session at The Current, in which they discussed unification, the recording process, and musicians who can "stretch out their arms and try things."
If you'd like to see Tabah live, you have four chances this week; they're at the Triple Rock, Bunkers, Reverie, and Kieran's Irish Pub on April 4, 6, 7, and 8, respectively. Before or after those sets, use the audio player above to hear the full session.
