Coffee Break: National Crayon Day
by Jill Riley and Brian Oake
March 31, 2017
Friday, March 31, is National Crayon Day. To "mark" (ahem) the occasion, Crayola, the manufacturer of colorful art materials, had planned to announce the retirement of one of its classic colors in the popular 24-count pack of crayons. The company planned to do the big reveal during a live Facebook broadcast on Friday morning from New York's Times Square.
Instead, on Thursday, the Crayola announced that Dandelion — that bright yellow hue — is the crayon retiring to the Crayola Hall of Fame, calling the color "an adventurous spirit" with "a case of wanderlust."
It's not the first time Crayola has retired a color. Eight of them — Maize, Lemon Yellow, Blue Gray, Raw Umber, Green Blue, Orange Red, Orange Yellow and Violet Blue — were retired in 1990.
But with all this talk about crayons in their many hues, we're thinking about songs that mention colors.
So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs that mention colors do you want to hear?
