I can only imagine that tending bar could possibly be one of the most incredibly lucrative professions … if you're a songwriter. Obviously, I'm not talking about money, but rather the sheer wealth of storyline ideas that must spew forth from the regulars bellied up to the bar on any given evening. Courtney Marie Andrews' new album, Honest Life, contains songs that were most definitely influenced by regulars for whom she poured drinks at a neighborhood bar in Washington state while trying to make a living as a singer-songwriter.
After leaving home at 16 and busking up and down the West Coast, Courtney moved to Belgium for a while and also toured as a backup singer and guitarist for Damien Jurado and Jimmy Eat World. But all along the way, she jotted down her own songs and has put her most recent collection of them onto her new album.
Courtney was in town recently and found time to sing some of her songs for us in the Radio Heartland studio.
