As long as they can remember, Brian and Michael D'Addario have played music, which isn't all that long considering they are 19 and 17, respectively. But Brian and Michael have an undeniable brotherly bond, and that comes through in their savant-level songwriting.

Ahead of their show in First Avenue's 7th St. Entry, the Lemon Twigs — brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario alongside Danny Ayala and Megan Zeankowski — stopped by The Current to perform live in-studio and to chat with host Jade.

When the Lemon Twigs rolled in to The Current studio, it's easy to realize the band has a "look." But like their music, their presentation is hard to pin to a specific era. Performance — either on stage or presentation — is considered by the D'Addarios. "It's obliviously not as important as the music, but it's definitely a thing that deserves to be paid attention to," said Michael.

Back to the music.

Recorded over 12 days in Los Angeles with producer Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, the Lemon Twigs' debut album was written in their Long Island home when Michael was just 14. While Michael and Brian wrote songs on Do Hollywood individually — Brian on guitar, Michael on piano — their approach has since grown more collaboratively.

"You can be critical to the other person but also you can be very intuitive with the other person," said Brian, explaining his brother-band relationship with Michael. "Having [Michael's] stamp on my song makes me like my song more than if it was just me."
