Kalispell perform in the Radio Heartland studio

When I listened to Kalispell's new record, Printer's Son, I liked it immediately. It's music that is impossible to categorize. It has elements of folk, jazz and even classical music to my ears, which is why I couldn't stop listening. And that's how I pick music for this stream sometimes: If I like it, it gets on the air.
Shane Leonard is the guy behind Kalispell's music. Shane is a Wisconsin guy who has worked with about one-third of the musicians on the Radio Heartland playlist. Okay, that's an exaggeration — but it's a way of describing how Shane's inventiveness has worked its way into my ears. Besides the release of the Kalispell album, Shane is recording a new album with The Stray Birds, and he has worked with Sara and Sean Watkins, Jeff Tweedy, Larry Campbell, Phil Cook and many others. On the Kalispell album, Shane plays guitar, banjo, drums and percussion, and he wrote all the songs.
Shane and Kalispell stopped in to the Radio Heartland studio to perform songs from Printer's Son.
