Bleached perform live in The Current studio, remember Prince
by Mac Wilson, Leah Garaas and Bleached
April 24, 2016
As the first act to perform at The Current following Prince's death, it's fitting that Bleached recorded Welcome the Worms at Sunset Sound, the studio where he lived for two years and tracked Purple Rain.
Before heading into the studio, though, sisters Jennifer and Jessie Clavin wrote Welcome the Worms in Joshua Tree, away from the Valley where they first formed Bleached (home of Boogie Nights and the birth of the porn industry). After writing and demoing more than 30 songs, the 10-track album still needed a name.
After Pink Floyd and the Beach Boys, the worm could possibly be the least represented animal in music. Struggling to find the perfect title for the album, Jennifer was approached by a "freaky couple" in a Los Angeles park. They gave her a handmade religious book that was filled with cut and pasted images and words. One phrase that stuck out to her: "Welcome the Worms." And just like that, the record's title was found.
