Coffee Break: Songs from record store movies
April 08, 2016
Happy Rex Manning Day!
Have no idea what we're talking about? Rex Manning was the fictional pop star in the 1995 movie Empire Records. In the film, April 8 is the day Rex is scheduled to make an appearance at the struggling independent record store that the staff is trying to save from selling out and becoming a corporate chain.
Let's take inspiration from the movie and listen to songs for today's Coffee Break that were featured in films that had scenes in record stores.
Need some guidance? Here's a list of 25 record stores that appeared in films. Please be sure to include the movie along with your song suggestion.
Good luck, and thanks to Kelly for writing in with today's idea.
Songs played
Video Killed the Radio Star - Buggles
There is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths
Try a Little Tenderness - Otis Redding
Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) - The Delfonics
