Eating and Drinking with Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl: State Fair foods
August 26, 2015
Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine's Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl brings her extensive knowledge of the Midwest dining scene to Eating and Drinking.
Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl stops by The Current's Morning Show to talk about new foods at the Minnesota State Fair. "Tomorrow morning, as the sun comes up, I will have a ton of cash in my pocket and I will sprint from new food to new food," Dara says. "We've never had as many new foods as we do this year."
Among the new foods, here's what's on Dara's must-try list:
Mac and Cheese Cupcake - "This is innovation; this is what America's about."
Funnel Cake with Maple and Bacon - "I haven't had the next-level funnel cake in a while."
Tacho (Tater Tot nachos with bacon bits and green onions) - "Either this is going to be a bar-food dream or a big, oily mess."
Siracha items - From sliders, balls, dogs, the spice levels at the State Fair may be increasing.
Here are some of Dara's must-have classics:
Roasted Corn - Corn on the cob
Harry Singh's Doubles - Trinidad fry breads filled with chickpea curry.
Indie Frites/Pig Tails - From Midtown Global Market
Poutine - The popular Canadian dish of french fries, cheese and gravy
Plus, Dara, Jill and Sean compare notes on new foods (such as deep-fried ribs) and returning favorites (e.g. deep-fried candy bars).
