Black Diet perform in The Current studio
by David Campbell, Leah Garaas and Black Diet
July 21, 2015
"A million shows. Recording an album in a month. Winter. Rebirth." That's Jonathan Tolliver's elevator speech for what Black Diet has been up to since winning Vita.mn's Are You Local? contest in March of 2014.
With the release of their sophomore record The Good One, Black Diet—Jonathan Tolliver (lead vocals), Mugsy (backing vocals), Mitch Sigurdson (guitar), Sean Schultz (keys and guitar), Garrison Grouse (bass) and David Tullis (drums)—stopped by The Current to chat with David Campbell of The Local Show and to record new tracks live in-studio.
Recorded at Shock and Audio in Minneapolis, The Good One took much less time to record than their Piñata debut Find Your Tambourine. "We're stronger as band," Tolliver says, "We came up with a process so that we could put something good together, and we're proud of it."
Black Diet celebrate the release of The Good One with a show in the First Avenue mainroom on Friday, July 24 with Southside Desire, Red Daughters and JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound.
